South Sudan is facing one of the world’s most urgent hunger crises. Ongoing conflict, climate disasters, and a collapsed health system have left families with little food, no reliable healthcare, and few ways to survive. But this crisis is not hopeless. Amref has been working in South Sudan for over 50 years, and we are reaching families others cannot.
Here's how:
Amref is running 23 community nutrition sites in partnership with UNICEF and WFP, delivering over 1.3 million pounds of emergency therapeutic food to remote communities. We are training women through Mother-to-Mother Support Groups to provide breastfeeding support and nutrition guidance to strengthen long-term food security, supporting families with home gardens and small-scale farming, and launching Farmer Field Schools and youth training programs for refugees and host communities in South Sudan and Uganda.
This initiative was meant to reach over 61,000 women and children this year. Without immediate support, we may only be able to reach 8,200.
